Happy Women’s Day!
They come in all different shapes and sizes,
with different dreams and limitless ambitions.
They are quirky and brave,
timid and bold,
sexy and serious,
strict and fun-loving.
But they have one thing in common –
they are bright as the first star in the sky,
beautiful as the first flower in a spring meadow,
warm as the first ray of sun after the rain,
mysterious as the most precious treasure
and more fabulous than anything else in this world.

10 Things Every Woman Should Know

You are awesome!
Today I want to take a moment to thank and greet every woman reading this article. (If you are a man reading this post, please keep reading to learn something important about the women in your life.)
March 8th is International Women’s Day and I would like to suggest that we all celebrate it this week.
I grew up in Ukraine and this holiday is widely observed over there.
It’s a day to celebrate all the women in the world, young and experienced, mothers and daughters, friends and sisters, aunts and nieces, friends and colleagues.
Every woman is a treasure but way too often we forget how precious they are. We get lost in daily chores and stinky diapers, in work deadlines and dirty dishes, in daily errands and occasional breakdowns.
I put together a list of 10 things that all women should remember in order to stay balanced, grounded and amazing as we are born to be.
1. You are beautiful
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
~ Elizabeth Kübler-Ross
Every woman deserves to shine in this world, inside and out. Don’t let anything or anyone let you doubt how beautiful you are because you are a gem like no other. Balance it more »
The Problem With Moderation

The New Year is officially in full swing. As readers of a balanced living blog I’m willing to bet that many of you started the year with a resolution or goal to live a healthier life in one way or another. I’m a big fan of resolutions because I believe that a fresh start can be helpful in making changes that we needed to make.
Just like Anastasiya, I encourage a balanced lifestyle. I don’t support fad diets or quick fixes. One might assume that I believe in using moderation in order to live a health life.
But you’d be wrong. There is a problem with “moderation” as it is often used today.
My issue is not with moderation in action, but rather with the overuse of a vague word that leaves many feeling directionless. If we all knew how to use this illusive “moderation” we’d all be fit, healthy and happy already.
We all WANT to practice moderation, but the truth is, it’s hard!
I do believe that when it comes to diet and exercise our goal should be to enjoy it all in moderation.
But how do we actually do that? Balance it more »
Healthier Body and Calmer Mind: Green Juicing Anyone?

Interview with Farnoosh Brock

Farnoosh Brock
Did you ever think of a healthy habit that you wanted to try but was a little afraid of it at the same time? Green juicing was that habit for me. I’ve heard and read a lot about it but could never master up the will power to try it. One of the main reasons I never gave it a try was because I didn’t know where to start.
- What vegetables should I use?
- What juicer should I buy?
- How much green juice can I drink?
- How can I make green juice taste good (the only time in my life that I could stomach a simple tomato juice was during my pregnancy, all other times the very thought of it makes my stomach turn.)
Fortunately, a blogging friend of mine – Farnoosh Brock of Prolific Living – has done the hard work for me and published the Comprehensive Guide to Green Juicing. I asked her to answer the most important questions about green juicing and share her favorite recipe that all of us can try this week. Bon appétit!
1. Farnoosh, why did you decide to try green juicing? What are the most appealing benefits of it?
Anastasiya, I got turned on to green juicing by watching a Jack Lalanne infomercial! Two funny things about that: I never ever watch TV and I certainly don’t make life-changing decisions based on what I watch…. so it’s ironic how that commercial led me to buy a juicer – an Omega juicer, not a Jack Lalanne one! – and to start experimenting. It was really driven mainly by curiosity. I was also starting to get seriously back into great shape and top health in 2007, after my Dad’s bouts with cancer and with the pressures of my declining and stressful career, and juicing just agreed with me. The Real Story of Losing 100 Pounds

Chris has lost 100 lbs
This question is probably the first one that comes to mind when we think about being healthy or changing our diet. If you’ve been following the Healthy Eating on a Budget Challenge then you probably noticed that we haven’t really talked about weight loss. Today I want to present to you a real life success story who agreed to share his weight loss tips and tricks with you.
Chris lost over 100 lbs by following a healthy and simple nutrition plan. Let’s see how he did it.
2011 was the year I decided to change my life.
At the start of the year I wasn’t in the best place: I was obese, I was unhappy, I smoked, I didn’t sleep much… I was a mess, basically.
I realized in March that I needed to do something if I wanted to avoid a life of misery at best and an early grave at worst, and thanks to Anastasiya I’m going to share my story with you.
In this first post, I’m going to talk about my diet, and I hope to encourage anyone reading this that wants to lose some weight to go for it!
I lost over a hundred pounds last year, and I have kept it off for three months now. Balance it more »
