With type 2 diabetes you really need to watch your carbs, so your groceries will be a little bit different from the ones that I&#039;ve mentioned in the article. You need to opt for non-starchy vegetables like cabbage, green beans, cauliflower and broccoli,spinach, tomatoes, onion, bell peppers. You need to limit starchy foods but not exclude them. In general you will need to have about 1/2 of your meal consisting of non-starchy vegetables, 1/4 of starchy foods like brown rice, beans, whole wheat pasta and 1/4 of lean protein like chicken or turkey breast. 
You also need to be very careful with canned foods: always choose the ones without salt because diabetes increases chances of high blood pressure. You can also use dried beans instead of canned ones, this way you can monitor your sodium intake even better.
