Exercising works well especially after a long day in front of the computer. Try listening to uplifting audio tapes like the one I have "The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama". You can even listen to it while you work out.

@Jeffrey I hope you will enjoy your evening without media interruptions. I think it's totally amazing to spend an old-fashioned evening without cell-phones, internet, TV etc. Sometimes I forget how much I can enjoy quietness and silence and how inspiring it can be. It's probably something I must practice more often myself.

Tip #12 sounds delicious - and I'm not even a coffee drinker!

I like the idea of media detox ... and I could definitely use some myself. I work at a tech company, so I spend all day around computers. I've gotten into the habit of taking short, regular breaks outside during the work day, away from all the electronics. It works wonders.

I'm going to take your advice try going a whole night without media interruptions ... wish me luck!

@Kye
I'll definitely try your advice. It sounds like a fun way to clear your mind.
Another thing that works great for me is creating stories for my girls. Sometimes we will be walking in the park or just playing in their room and I'll start telling them a story. They like listening to these stories (I am not sure how much they understand at this point though :-)) and it always calms them down. Reading books is usually less effective for them. I get a spark of creativity and inspiration in those moments. I guess it helps me to look at our world from a completely different perspective - through the eyes of a child. And nothing can reflect our adult world better than a spectrum of child's innocence and imagination.

Reading this takes me back a couple of decades to when my own sons were tiny. I vividly remember how hard it was to find even five minutes for thinking my own thoughts. In desperation I finally found room to think in, in the oddest place: between the words of stories I had read to them hundreds of times.

It's not that I wasn't paying attention to them. Actually what I did was to get so deep into the words that time slowed down. And then, there was my space!

Try it! It's amazing...

Thanks for reminding me of that--it's a special memory.
