sherris-book-300x202Do you love your life? I really hope that you do, but if you don’t then you can always learn to love it. Loving your life, no matter what life you have, is the first step to happiness. After all your life is your journey and only you can pick the right road for this journey.

I want to ask you three questions about your life:

1. What is the ideal life that you will love?

2. What stops you from living that life right now?

3. How can you start living the life of your dreams today?

I would be happy if you could share your ideas about these questions because I am sure that we can all help each other.

Today I want to present to you a book by Sherri Kruger (a great blogger who gives indispensable advice about happy living at Serene Journey and Zen Family Habits). The book is called Your Life. Live it. Love it so if you have trouble answering the third question then I definitely recommend it to you.

What I loved the most about the book is how Sherri combines her personal experience with life lessons that all of us can relate to. I think it is much better to let Sheri talk about her book and answer a few life balance questions that you might be interested in. Enjoy!

1. How can you simply describe Your life that You love? What are the main components that you cannot live without?

I love my life right now. I’m doing what I think I was meant to be doing all along and that’s helping people. I love hearing people’s stories, challenges, hopes and dreams and being able to help them in any way I can get them closer to where they want to be.

I have a phenomenal family and extended family. I’m very fortunate and grateful that they’ve loved and supported me through everything. They’ve provided encouragement, gentle nudges, and full out pushes when I needed it.

I don’t think there is anything that I can’t live without. Over the last few years I’ve been focusing on not getting too attached to specific things and ideas. I am finding the less I think of how things “should” work out, the more I’m able to just go with the flow and take things as they come. I’m so much happier for it. It’s been one of the best life lessons I’ve learned so far.

2. What is life balance to you? Do you have it? If yes, how do you maintain it?

To me life balance is incorporating family, activities, and passions into your life everyday in just the right amounts. There is no one combination that will work for everyone. It’s such a personal thing and it takes a lot of work to get it just right. Some days I think I have my life in perfect balance but that quickly changes. I think there’s a natural ebb and flow to life. As long as you can identify when you’re off balance and bring yourself back into line I think you’ll be okay. Nobody has it together 100% of the time. :)

3. In your book you use a lot of examples from your family life. What are some secrets of a balanced (happy) family?

Patience, acceptance, communication, gratitude, and love. These are what I feel are the secrets to a balanced family. It’s always been my goal to create a home where everyone is welcome just as they are without judgment and not taken for granted. When everyone feels valued, that they have a meaningful place in their family and their thoughts and opinions matter, everyone is naturally happier.

4. In one of the chapters of your book you talk about the importance of a gratitude journal. Can you name top 5 things in life from your gratitude journal?

Oh that’s a tough one. I don’t repeat entries so I’ll tell you 5 things I’m grateful for today. I hope that’s alright.

a) The fact that my kids ask for fruit when they want a snack during the day.
b) My physical strength
c) Spontaneous dance parties with my kids in the middle of the afternoon
d) Vanilla – good to bake with and when used in air fresheners
e) The funny faces my husband pulls – they always make me laugh

5. How do you find inspirations for a daily happy life that you love?

My top sources of inspiration are:

  • My family and seeing them happy.
  • The beauty in the little things in life.
  • Reading people’s stories or recalling personal stories from those who have overcome great adversity to become incredibly successful.
  • Seeing people genuinely happy and enjoying life – this one really keeps me going.

Thank you Sherri for sharing these answers with us and good luck with your book!

Smart Thoughts (5)

  1. Fr. Michael says:

    Anastasiya,
Thanks for this interview. Here are my thoughts on your questions:

    1. What is the ideal life that you will love?
I believe I’m living the life I was created to live; however, there are many days that I live it imperfectly. When I do live my days focused on living my vocation really well, that’s when I’m the happiest. I experience the most happiness and peace (the ideal life) when I’m totally immersed in my ministry, particularly when I’m focused on serving others and forgetting about myself. Selflessness brings happiness.

    2. What stops you from living that life right now?
Sin! : ) Truthfully, it’s when I get too focused on myself. If I stay focused on my purpose, my mission, then it all seems to fall into place.

    3. How can you start living the life of your dreams today?
I believe each day offers a new beginning. Yesterday is gone; today is a gift. I can live the life of my dreams by focusing on my mission/purpose and making sure all of my goals and ideals serve that mission.

Fr. Michaeil, thank you so much for your wonderful answers. I think I and a lot of other people who read this blog can learn a lot from you.
I know that right now I am focused on the most important things in my life: my family, faith (my husband and I have discovered an incredible church and we always look forward to going there), my mission in life. I believe that my mission in this world is to help others live a happy and balanced life in physical and spiritual sense. I know that I love my life right now and I want people around me to find their ideal life and live it. I think the world would be so much better if there were more happy and fulfilled people around.

  2. I loved this interview, Anastasiya, thank you. Sherri is amazing. This phrase resonated with me a lot – “the less I think of how things “should” work out, the more I’m able to just go with the flow and take things as they come.”. I am coming close to experiencing this in my own life now, I am probably not all the way there yet but I am really close. (I hope:)). Great interview, I loved your questions!

  3. Cheryl Paris says:

    Hello Anastaysia,

Great work interviewing Sherri about her experiences in life. There are some crucial points discussed and I love the fact of going with the flow. Not all rules work for everyone so What works for you go for it.

    Cheers,
    Cheryl
