Life balance is a topic that we’ve been discussing a lot here and now I am getting ready to give you the most important advice that will help you reach your life balance right here and right now. This advice is very easy to follow so please stick around for a few more paragraphs to hear what I am going to say.

If you are reading this blog then you probably belong to one of the three categories of readers:

Group 1.
Readers who are truly interested in making their lives better and reaching life balance that we’ve been chasing around for a while now. (You guys are the best, you are my favorite and most treasured readers!)
Group 2.
Readers who read these posts in order to leave a comment hoping that I will leave a comment on their blogs in return (that I will most likely do because I am trying to be generous in any possible way) or so that they will get some of my traffic. (I love you guys too because you are still my readers and you make those Feedburner stats look better day after day! I also love having conversations with you here on Balance In Me or on your blogs.)
Group 3.
My husband who reads all my posts before anyone else does and makes sure that I do not make any silly mistakes (ok, I am being very partial here but he is my most favorite reader :-) ).

Readers in the first group are more likely to benefit from what they read here and turn their lives into a balanced direction but the second group is not hopeless either. If you are still reading this blog (or any other personal development blog) then there is still room for improvement in your life and you want to make changes that will bring more happiness into your everyday life. However, no matter how much you read you still do not see anything happening or changing. You still feel stressed out or depressed occasionally, you still have some bad habits and your happiness level does not improve as it is supposed to. Why? Because you do not use any advice that you read on numerous blogs.

I know that you will say that just yesterday you read a great post about healthy living or meditation and you fixed a healthy meal or meditated for 10 minutes. However tomorrow you will already forget about that post and you will resort to your old routines.

Blogs (including Balance In Me of course) give you priceless advice on almost any aspect of your life however you still do not use it. If you read multiple personal development blogs then you have an entire encyclopedia of information in your own hands (it’s better to say in front of your eyes) buy you do not see it. The most important advice that I can give you is

“Use all the tips and pieces of advice that you read immediately and do not procrastinate.”

I know why you do not use the advice that you read online and here is a simple step-by-step guide to fight any of your excuses and finally reach your life balance:

  1. The advice is too easy and common-sense. Simple advice is usually the most useful one but you do not use it because it is simple. I have written multiple times about the importance of being in nature. Did you make it a habit to go out to the park or sit in the sunshine in your backyard? It is simple and yet powerful way to bring balance into your life.
  2. It is too complicated. You are thinking about adopting some healthy habits and you do not know where to begin. Even after reading 101 Healthy Habits that anyone Can Follow you are still not sure that you need all these changes. Do not think. Just do it! Right now!
There is practically no complicated advice online. Most articles give you step-by-step instructions on how to do everything from tying your shoes to rewiring the electrical system in your house. Just follow the instructions.
  3. You are lazy. This is not really your excuse but this is the reason why you do not take any steps. Once you realize that your laziness causes you to miss out on life you will be more likely to act.
  4. This advice is not for me. Maybe it is not right now but maybe you can transform it and use it for your own purposes. If you are not in a relationship then The Happy Couple Cheat Sheet might seem like a waste of time for you. But on the other hand you can read it and see how you can improve yourself and prepare yourself to meet your special one. Some advice is really not for you (you do not need to read an article on how to quit smoking if you are not a smoker) but you can always recommend those articles to people who you know need this help.
  5. Do not take the blogger’s advice lightly. Just because the blogs that you read are free does not mean that the information there does not have any value. Most of the advice that you read is priceless because bloggers give you tips that have worked for them in real life and this is the best proof of the importance of these tips. If you were to hire a life coach or some other professional to help you improve in any area then you would receive the same advice that you read on blogs (sometimes this advice can even be worse than what you read for free) and pay a lot of money for it. You’ll be sure to follow that advice of course because you paid for it.
  6. Make your own book of wisdom. A lot of bloggers sell e-books that are nothing but a collection of their best posts organized in a handy way. You can buy these books (I am sure that any blogger will be thrilled if you do) or create your own handbook from multiple sources. When you read a post that seems useful to you write down the main idea on a notepad or use any bookmarking tool to save the post for future reference. Go over your notes or bookmarks frequently if you want to stick to your new ways.
  7. Commit to your changes. When you are reading about the importance of being mindful or decluttering your life do not just do it once and then forget about it. Make small steps day after day until the new way is engraved in your behavior and is as natural as breathing or brushing your teeth in the morning. Change one step at a time but do not stop.
  8. The best advice is not the new one but the timely one. I do not know about you but plenty of times when something was troubling me I was browsing my favorite blogs and I read an article that was right on target for me. Keep following your favorite blogs and I am sure that when you need advice or help you will definitely get it.

I hope that now you won’t have any trouble at all in finding your life balance and living in peace with yourself and the world around you. Coming up next is my own Book of Wisdom with my favorite posts on different life aspects from around the web. By the way if you think that you have some ingenious advice that I can use or that can fit into my Book of Wisdom please feel free to mention it in the comments below, send it through the Contact form or tweet me about it. (The Book of Wisdom will be published on February, 23. Please do not submit your articles after that.)

Keep it balanced!

P. S. This post was inspired by Is Reading Blog Posts Worth Your Time?. James Chartrand definitely wrote a very timely post for me.

Smart Thoughts (24)

  1. Anastasiya, Number 5 is my favorite and probably the number one reason I poke around so many blogs. I love to read personal stories from people who have had any number of experience along their path in life. Especially when those stories tell a tale of success or personal triumph. The power in those stories isn’t always in the lesson learned, but often in the inspiration they give me. The stories make me feel good and offer some inspiration to keep doing whatever I happen to be doing.

    • Anastasiya says:

I love reading personal stories too and I think that this is the main reason why blogs are so successful. There is something special and extremely inspiring about reading personal stories of bloggers who managed to improve their life in one way or another. You can’t get this kind of motivation anywhere else.

  2. Walter says:

Finding balance starts within one’s self. We have to eliminate our internal enemies before we can see the sources of balance surrounding us. Our first enemy is our mind because it is the source of all our perception of things. Also, our mind tends to resist many things that are not in accordance to its conditioning. We have to be aware of the instinctive manipulations of our mind, unless we do this we can not find balance even if it’s right before our noses. :-)

  3. Fr. Michael says:

    Anastasiya,

Thank you for the great content on your blog. I think many of us can relate to reading about personal development and not experiencing the desired change. I’ve learned that there is a cumulative effect: change takes place incrementally, and when there are setbacks we can always return to what we know to be true and begin again. I think it’s important to put as much positive material into our minds and hearts as possible.
Again, thanks for your thoughts. By the way, you don’t need to leave a comment on my blog; I just wanted to chime in.

    Peace!

    • Anastasiya says:

Thank you so much for stopping by. Sometimes that idea that it is time to change and positive thoughts and positive people around us are all we need to make our lives better. Being a true Christian is the first step to making your own change for better and after that everything else will fall in place.

  4. Cheryl Paris says:

Wonderful post. Very honest opinion about 3 types of readers.

Concepts like inner wellness, wellbeing are understood by few.

We generally engage our time and effort in satisfying our material requirements and ignore balance. To maintain a healthy lifestyle there should be a proper balance between exercising and stress-free mind and body which can be obtained only when a person feels good from within.

What better way to go when all important points are highlighted here with links as well.

    Cheers,

    • Anastasiya says:

There are so many aspects that form our life balance and even the tiniest change can bring the biggest results. The desire to change and to take care of yourself is sometimes all you need to bring your life in balance because once you have the desire the rest will be easy

  5. They say 95% of people who buy personal development books never take action on what they’ve read. I think with blogs it is even less. I guess a lot of us sit and wait for things to start happening just from the fact that we read the book or the post. Doesn’t happen that way unfortunately:)
Great post Anastasiya and I am in both categories. I comment because I think that your blog delivers tons of value, I really like you personally and I do want the traffic that might be coming from your blog to mine because of my comments:)

    • Anastasiya says:

Thank you for being honest Lana. I must admit that a lot of times I belong to the first and second category of readers on other blogs too. I think that it is just natural for any blogger or person with a website to try to bring some traffic and new visitors to their website. I have a rule though: I never comment on articles that I do not like or that haven’t touched me. I am trying to make the most use out of every word that I hear or read and that helps me make changes in myself effortlessly.

  6. I concur with what others have said about your honest with regards to your 3 types of readers.

I like number six, I have still yet to get my 100 days of wisdom book out there but will soon.

I also like what you said about laziness took, once that realisation and awareness kicks in you start to take more action! :-)

  7. LPC says:

Only now, in my 50s, do find that I am actually taking advice and following steps given to me by others.

    • Anastasiya says:

Taking advice from others is always difficult and I think that it gets only more difficult as you get older. This is just our personal belief that we can’t learn from anybody else and that we need to find out everything our way. This belief costs us a lot of time that we could spend with our loves ones or doing things we love.

  8. This sure is right on! I do keep notes that are meaningful and deeply touch me. If the post is spot on I print it out and keep it in a notebook. I also agree that with out taking action we’re fooling ourselves.

I used to buy a ton of books. Since the downturn in the economy I began using the library more but there they can even order many of the books I like to read. I still miss books but realize with all the blogs I read I’m doing just find. Great advice!

    • Anastasiya says:

Thanks for stopping by Tess. I love reading books too but after we bought the house I had to cut back on those “luxuries.” Reading blogs and talking to a lot of amazing people (like you :-) ) keeps me expand my horizons without spending a dime.

  9. Kaushik says:

I’m in both groups. When I first started blogging, I commented on other blogs for reciprocity. Many still do and there nothing wrong with it. I rely now only simple and useful content.

Your advice is good. The ego will resist. I have a very simple and effective release technique. There are people who have trouble getting started on it. The ego resists, and when we can recognize that, it’s little easier.

It’s great advice to be open-minded and start it right away.

    Thanks, great post, very helpful!

    k

    • Anastasiya says:

Thank you Kaushik for your comment. Being open-minded is really important if you want to grow in life. I am looking forward to reading more of your comments and useful tips on my blog.

  10. Jovan says:

I’m new here so I’m in group 2. I’m going to take Leo’s advise, he says – just like drinking water from a stream, take in what I can from what is here now. This way I’m not overwhelmed with everything downstream.

    I’m also more like #9 – Procrastinator. ;o)

    • Anastasiya says:

Thanks for your honesty Jovan :-) I hope that you will find some useful information on my blog and it will help you with your own life and projects. I’ll be sure to check out your blog to stay up-to-date with PC news and tips.

  11. Hi Anastasiya – I’m one of those reciprocating bloggers, popping in to thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. I love the categories you’ve got going here. When I read blogs, though, I’m not actually looking for advice so much, but rather an experience and story of the person writing it. For me that’s the best teacher of all about personal development. So I smiled a lot when you told the little story about your husband reading your blog. Oh, and I often wonder if people don’t followup on advice because there is so much of it and they are a bit overwhelmed.

    • Anastasiya says:

      Hi Patty,
I also love personal stories and a lot of times I read blog posts just to see how the person worked around common situations or advice. Sometimes these stories give the best inspiration to do something in my life (or to write a post in response).
The advice might be overwhelming that is why I personally limit the amount of posts that I read daily. I choose only the ones that seem most relevant to my interests and rotate those blogs from day to day.

  12. Larry says:

‘I know that you will say that just yesterday you read a great post about healthy living or meditation and you fixed a healthy meal or meditated for 10 minutes. However tomorrow you will already forget about that post and you will resort to your old routines’

That sounds a little judgemental. How do you know?

  13. Anastasiya says:

    Hi Larry,
I was talking about the majority of people (including myself sometimes). If you do not belong to this category then you are probably lucky enough to be happy and live a balanced life already.
