Sun Salutation

Posted in Balanced Body | October 5, 2008 |

Sun Salutation is one of the first sequences that you learn when you start to do yoga. It is a great way to wake up in the morning, to refill your energy in the afternoon and to get rid of the stress in the evening. Sun Salutation is a series of the most famous and the easiest yoga exercises that helps your body to warm up before a more serious workout.

Several times a week I do the Sun Salutation at the beginning of my morning exercises. The great thing about this sequence is that I can adjust it to my mood: if I feel strong and if my body is ready for a serious challenge, then I add several exercises of the “advanced difficulty” to this series, and if I feel weak, then I simplify this routine to several basic movements but it still helps me feel much better after I am done with it.

On YouTube I found two really good videos that show step by step instructions how to perform the Sun Salutation. I think it’s better to watch it once than to read about it a hundred times.

This is video # 1 that is the easiest of two.

This is video #2 that is a little bit more challenging.

If I want to challenge myself I add Warrior Pose I and Warrior Pose III

and I turn a Downward Facing Dog into a one-legged Downward Facing Dog or a Downward Facing Dog Twist.
